Well-
As promised, here I sit at Starbucks enjoying my frothy caramel macchiato. Oh, by the way the interview went GREAT!!! They offered me the supervisory position over their helpdesk! They want me onsite and ready to go tomorrow morning at 07:00 AM. I am SO EXCITED! At least I can say that I am now officially employed.
I just learned something - Right across the street is a tall white building. From what I understand the penthouse of that building used to be the Phoenix Playboy Club...
I'm gonna love this job.....

Tue Sep 30, 06:51:50 AM
Okay- It's Tuesday Morning and at 10:00 AM I am to be at my second interview for a helpdesk management position. I'm proud to say that I slept exactly ZERO hours last night worrying about this damn interview. Ya gotta understand, I have been happily employed for the past 15 years! This is untrodden ground for me.
I went out and picked up some clothes yesterday. While I was shopping at the mall I walked past some of those kiosks that you find in malls. You know the ones, selling cell phone accessories, watches, sunglasses. The guys working these kiosks are in their late 20's to early 30's. Is this their job? What the heck kind of future is in that? Then I wondered if they owned the kiosk and it was their business? To each their own I guess. I couldn't imagine depending on an 8 foot by 5 foot kiosk for my livelihood.
Kind of calmed my jitters...
I'll update you on how the dreaded second interview pans out from the hotspot at Starbucks while enjoying a caramel macchiato.
As always, Stay Tuned!

EMPLOYMENT UPDATE!
Well, just got the call...
THEY WANT ME AT THE OFFICE TOMORROW 10:00AM SHARP FOR A SECOND INTERVIEW! This is looking really good folks. I can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel. Being unemployed sucks bigtime. I definitely feel for all of those that have lost their jobs. It's rough times but hang in there, things will turn around!
I gotta get out of here and do some shopping. I literally have 1 dress shirt and 1 pair of dress slacks. Don't want to walk in wearing the same clothes as I did last week!
(or should I??)

Mon Sep 29, 10:28:36 AM - - - -Hurry Up And Wait...
The story of my life. I mentioned previously that I had been laid off from my career of 15 years. That happened on July 25th, 2003. Exactly two months later (after pounding the pavement like a driveling fool) I landed an interview with an ISP here in town. They were interviewing for a tier II helpdesk technician. I thought "that's fine, it's a no brainer...". I go in and sit down. After they reviewed my resume, they informed me that they were going to "throw me a curve ball". They would rather interview me for a management position over their helpdesk! I wasn't ready for that one! For the next hour and a half I was drilled by three different managers. Talk about grueling!
In the end, it turned out they absolutely loved me and they were going to recommend me to their director. The director however, was traveling and would not be in until Monday. So here I sit. On pins and needles waiting for that all important call. This is the equivalent of sitting in your bedroom as a kid on Christmas morning and waiting for your parents to say that everythings ready and you can come out now!! (ya know, the cameras have all got to be ready to get those HORRIBLE shots!)
As soon as I hear word, I'll post the news up here. Granted this could go both ways. So I got to remain focused...

So I'm sitting here mindlessly gazing at the TV when all of a sudden something catches my attention. On VH-1, a series is airing titled "I Love The 70's". Now- I don't know about you but, I am a HUGE fan of nostalgia. And the 70's are about as nostalgic as anything can get! It was basically a 6 hour show with each hour highlighting a year from 1971 up to 1976. Old commercials were played, popular (should I say) attire 'ala Leisure Suits were brought back for our enjoyment.
For a precious 6 hours, I was frolicking in the land of CHIPs, WKRP & BJ & The Bear!
Afterwards I got to thinking- Will there ever be a decade like the 70's ever again? I'm not talking about the god awful dress codes or the mandatory Disco collections. But rather the freedoms and carefree attitude that so threaded through society at that time? The family values as well. To this day I still have fond memories of sitting at the dinner table for dinner (what a concept), helping clean up. Doing homework getting an hour or so to play outside with my friends and finally gathering around the television to watch that weeks episode of The Waltons before showering and heading off to bed. Sound boring? Of course it does! Things were simpler then.
For those that can- Sit back for a sec, think about those times. There was no such thing as worrying about terrorism, global warming or aids! If it felt good do it! was the motto of the day. Nobody got hurt. Although drugs abounded, they were easily avoided. Besides, the drugs that did exist were the equivalent to strong aspirin compared to today's chemical cadaver pills.
Check your local listings. If you get VH-1 in your area, make a point to sit back, relax and escape the horrors of society today by slipping back, albeit for a few hours... To the 70's!
Want more 70's splendor? Check my links for the 70's in all their groovy glory!
Oh, one last thing. Next month? It's I LOVE THE 80's!!!
Stay tuned

Well here I am! You're about to venture into the SJN Chronicles. A no-nonsense, sometimes pollitically incorrect but for the most part entertaining BLOG.
A little about SJN (me): My name is Shawn and I currently reside in sunny Phoenix, Arizona. As of this writing, I am an unemployed global network engineer after being laid off from a career of 15 years for a global componant distributer. D-day came on July 25th and I've been pounding the pavement ever since. But more on that later.
I lead your average American life, got a wife, a kid and a dog. No white picket fence though and I spend wayyyy too much time banging away on this computer. I am a self professed Geek and I wear that as a badge. Most people I refer to as friends are those that find it convenient to have someone within arms reach to fix their computers. Thats okay though. Its what I do- Its what I love. My idea of a great time is gathering my buddies, some pizza and Dr. Pepper and making hamburger out of them in several rounds of Unreal Tournament or Battlefield 1942 over the course of a weekend.
Like I said, I'm a geek.
